The woman, in her 40's and from the Netherlands, was walking with family when she slipped, injuring her ankle. She was in significant pain and also complaining of dizziness. Whilst the two might have been related, the prevailing hot weather meant that potentially serious heat related illness could not be ruled out.
With this in mind, along with the potential risk to our volunteers of an arduous stretcher carry in the high temperatures, a request was made for air-support. Coastguard Rescue 187 was granted and arrived on scene shortly after 4:00 p.m. Following assessment by Team casualty carers and the winchman paramedic, the woman was airlifted to Bronlais Hospital for further investigation and treatment.
Everyone was safely off the hill by 5:30 p.m.
