Making the most of a window of good weather, the two men, in their late 20's and early 30's and visiting from Germany, headed up the Minffordd Path to make a circuit of the mountain. They summited PenyGadair without incident, but on Mynydd Moel, the lightly equipped pair missed the turn down the mountain, and with no resources to correct their error, became lost.
The men described their position as having lost the Minffordd path, but this was not in line with data gathered via their phone signal. Finally call handlers managed to reach the men by phone and their position was confirmed in line with the digital signal.
A hasty party was dispatched up the Minffordd Path to locate the pair, with other volunteers following on as they arrived. The men were found quickly, cold but otherwise uninjured, and walked off the mountain.
Everyone was off the mountain by 10:40 p.m., just before the weather window closed and returned to high winds, sleet and rain.
