The woman, from Norwich, was one of a party of eight climbing the mountain. The group had decided to climb the "stone chute" route from Llyn Cau to the summit of Pen y Gader, but on viewing the difficult steep and rocky path from close-up, four of the group decided that it was not for them and turned back.
Whilst making her way back accross stepping stones in the boggy ground at the outflow of Llyn Cau, the lady slipped and sustained a suspected broken shoulder.
By chance, a Team volunteer was on another part of the mountain, and was able to quickly make his way to the incident. Perfect flying conditions meant that the Coastguard helicopter, Rescue936, was also quickly on scene. The lady was uplifted and flown to Bronglais hospital for further assessment and treatment, and the remaining three of the party who turned back were escorted down from the mountain by Team volunteers.
