Missing Paddlers on "Lake Vyrnwy"

24/1/2022

Shortly before 6:00 p.m. the Team was requested to assist in the search for two paddlers missing on Lake Vyrnwy.

The two stand-up paddle-boarders were part of a group of 8, and had been reportedly swept over a weir. As more information emerged, it was found to be the Afon Vyrnwy rather than the lake, and the weir in question was near Dolanog.

Water rescue parties from both Aberdyfi and South Snowdonia Teams were called out to help North East Wales MRT in the search, but were quickly stood down as news came in that, having been swept a mile or more downstream, the two casualties had managed to self-rescue and were safe and well.

Sick Mountain Biker above Furnace

23/1/2022

At around 12:30 p.m. the Team was requested to assist in the rescue of a sick mountain-biker in the hills above Furnace.

The 28 year old man had fallen from his bike and was thought to be having significant cardiac problems.

As the Team started to mount a response, the call-out was stood down when news came in that the EMRTS helicopter had attended, and was transporting the man to hospital care.

Crag-Fast Man on Cader Idris

17/1/2022

Shortly after 12:30 p.m. call-handlers from the Team were made aware of a man stuck on steep-ground on Cader Idris.

The man had been scrambling solo in the area of Cyfrwy Arête but had lost confidence and, being unable to proceed either up or down, called for assistance.

With the prospect of only a few hours of daylight to access the site with equipment and effect a technical rope rescue, the assitance of Coastguard Helicopter Rescue936 was requested to provide uplift to the top of the crag.

As the helicopter arrived on scene, the crew took the view that they could access the man directly. The winchman was lowered and was able to pick-off the stranded climber.

Everyone was back at their vehicles shortly before 3:00 p.m.
