Picture
At around 3.30 p.m. on Sunday 17th April, call-handlers from the Team were made aware of a woman near the summit of Cadair Idris with a lower leg injury.

The woman, from nearby Bontddu on the Mawddach Estaury, was part of a group of four adults and four children who had climbed the mountain that morning. The party had just begun their descent and were on the ridge between the summit of Cadair Idris and Mynedd Moel when the lady slipped and injured her ankle.

Given the location of the casualty, assistance from the Coastguard Helicopter was requested, and five volunteers from the Team were airlifted to the scene. The injured lady was flown to Bronglais Hospital, Aberystwyth, for further assessment and treatment, while the rest of the party was escorted off the mountain by Team members. Other volunteers from the Team made their way up on foot to assist in the descent, and all parties were off the mountain by 7:30 p.m.

At about 2:45, as the Team members at Minnfordd were preparing to pack up from the call-out below........

The Team received a second call-out, this time a request to assist our neighbouring Team, South Snowdonia Search & Rescue Team, in the rescue of an injured climber on Barmouth Slabs.

The climber, a 20 year-old man, had fallen 3-4 metres onto rocks, sustaining suspected injuries to his ankle, pelvis and back. He was lying awkwardly amongst the stones at the bottom of the rock face and in considerable pain. Equipment was quickly brought up to the site and the man was given pain relief before being placed in a full-body vacuum splint to stabilise his injuries.

Fresh from its trip to Bangor, the Coastguard helicopter returned to the Mawddach estuary, and in this instance, with a suitable landing site unavailable, winched the casualty aboard from above the cliff face.
