Lost Walkers on Cader Idris

23/2/2020

Just after 6:30 p.m., call handlers from the Team were made aware of two lost walkers on Cader Idris.

Making the most of a window of good weather, the two men, in their late 20's and early 30's and visiting from Germany, headed up the Minffordd Path to make a circuit of the mountain. They summited PenyGadair without incident, but on Mynydd Moel, the lightly equipped pair missed the turn down the mountain, and with no resources to correct their error, became lost.

The men described their position as having lost the Minffordd path, but this was not in line with data gathered via their phone signal. Finally call handlers managed to reach the men by phone and their position was confirmed in line with the digital signal.

A hasty party was dispatched up the Minffordd Path to locate the pair, with other volunteers following on as they arrived. The men were found quickly, cold but otherwise uninjured, and walked off the mountain.

Everyone was off the mountain by 10:40 p.m., just before the weather window closed and returned to high winds, sleet and rain.

Car Passengers Trapped in Flood-Water near Dolgellau

22/2/2020

Sortly before 4:30 a.m. the Team was requested to assist North Wales Police and Fire & Rescue services in the rescue of passengers from two vehicles trapped in flood-water on the A470 near Dolgellau.

As water in the river Wnion exceeded the highest levels recorded since the river gauge was opened in 1990, storm drains in the Bont Fawr underpass were unable to function and the dip in the road became flooded. Two vehicles, a van with a single passenger, and a car with two adults and a child became trapped in the water.

As the water team were gathering equipment and arriving on scene, the team was informed that the passengers had been recovered and the incident was stood down.
