Dislocated Knee on Cader Idris

12/7/2016

At around 08:30, call handlers were made aware of a youth with a dislocated knee on Cader Idris.

The male casualty,  part of a well trained and equipped Duke of Edinburgh party camped below Llyn Cau, was in a good deal of pain and unable to move following a slip. A request was made for assistance from the Coast Guard helicopter R936, but with the cloud-base hovering just above the lake, the Team readied itself for the difficult stretcher carry down to Minffordd.

In the event the weather continued to improve and the aircraft was able to fly directly to the casualty site. The youth was uplifted and transferred to Ysbwty Gwynedd for further treatment, and the Team was stood down.

At around 12:40, call handlers for the Team were alerted to an injured man on Cribin Fawr, around 2 km south of Bwlch Oerddrws on the A470 between Dolgellau and Dinas Mawddwy.

One of party of 11 walkers had slipped and injured his leg such that he could no longer walk. Mountain Rescue volunteers started to make  their way from the A470 along the ridge line to make contact with the group, and the Coastguard helicopter, R936, was dispatched to assist. The helicopter was able to quickly locate the group and the injured man and partner were uplifted and transferred to Ysbwyty Gwynedd for hospital based assessment and care.

The remaining party, well equipped and in good spirits, were walked off the hill by team members.

Couple lost on Dyfi Marshes

4/7/2016

Shortly after midnight, Team call handlers received a request to help North Wales and Dyfed Powys police forces in the search for a couple lost on the marshes adjacent to the River Dyfi, which forms the border between the two forces.

The couple had set out walking earlier in the evening, but found themselves benighted with no real idea of their location. As plans were being drawn up for the Team's deployment, the missing pair reported that they were able to see the blue lights of an Officer patrolling the road north of the river, and with their location calculated, the couple were picked up by railway staff. The Team was therefore not deployed.
