Man airlifted from Dolgoch Falls following knee injury

16/8/2012

Thurs 16thAugust

A morning hike took a dramatic turn when an 18 year old man slipped on  a muddy bank and injured his knee on the slopes above Dolgoch Falls, a popular walk south  of Cadair Idris.

The incident was attended by an ambulance crew and volunteers from  Aberdyfi Search and Rescue Team, who prepared the casualty for a stretcher

rescue. This was put on hold when a Rescue Helicopter from RAFValley attended the scene, and effected a
difficult winching operation in the tight tree-lined river  valley.

The casualty was flown to Bronglais Hospital, Aberystwyth to  receive treatment for his injuries.

A 66 year old lady with a leg injury was
airlifted from Cadair Idris on Friday 10th of August 2012 in the evening. The woman
had been walking around Llyn Cau when she slipped on rocks and injured her
ankle. Immediate assistance was provided by a passing off-duty police officer,
and volunteers from Aberdyfi Search and Rescue Team were quickly on the scene
to assess and stabilise the casualty.

An ASART stretcher party was dispatched from Minffordd to carry
down the injured lady, but  in the
event the RAF helicopter was able to offer assistance, winching the casualty to
safety and transporting her to Bronglais hospital for further assessment and
  treatment.

A group of 14 walkers

8/8/2012

A group of 14 walkers, including several young
children were rescued from the slopes of Cadair Idris at around 11 p.m. on
Wednesday 8thAugust
evening. The group had become lost in the dark after slower than expected
progress and a navigational error had put them well behind schedule.
The rescue was co-ordinated by volunteers from
Aberdyfi Search and Rescue Team, who called in assistance from a Rescue
Helicopter from RAF valley.

ASART member Graham O’Hanlon, said “the
group were on steep ground and the Sea King could not land, so the walkers had
to be winched aboard.”

The group were flown in two trips down to the rugby field in
Dolgellau, where ASART volunteers organized transport to collect the group’s
minibus from Mynffordd on the other side of the
mountain.

“Everyone was physically OK, if a little cold, and it had been
quite an adventure especially for the youngsters” continued Graham, “but it is a
good example of how easy it is to get into difficulties on the mountain.  Had the helicopter not been available,
or the weather had changed, things would have been much more serious, and we
always encourage walkers to allow plenty of time for their trip and to be fully
equipped in terms of clothing footwear and navigational tools before heading for
the hills.
