At about 5:40 pm on Thusday 26th Sept. Aberdyfi Search and Rescue Team (ASART) was alerted to an injured walker on Cadair Idris.

The casualty, a German tourist, was located a short distance up the Pony Path from Ty Nant. He and a companion had scaled the mountain almost to the peak, and had turned back when they hit the cloud-base which was enshrouding the summit cone. When almost back at the car-park, the man had slipped on a wet rock and had fallen badly, injuring his right ankle and hitting his head on a rock.

Passing walkers had tried to assist the man, but he had been unable to sustain this for more than a few paces, and so mountain rescue were called. Team members made an assessment of the injuries, and a splint was applied to the damaged ankle. The casualty was monitored throughout the process to reassure that the head injury was no worse than superficial. The man was assisted into a stretcher for evacuation off the mountain to an awaiting ambulance, and the entire party was safely off the mountain by 7:30 pm

Team Member Graham O’Hanlon said “Throughout their day, the party had made sensible choices, appropriate to their experience level, and had suitable clothing and footwear for their environment. It was the kind of slip that could happen to any
of us.”
