Rescue Team were called to assist members of North Wales Police and a water
rescue team from North Wales Fire and Rescue services in the search for a
missing person in the Dolgellau area.
Team members made a detailed search of the many lanes, yards and fields in the area surrounding the last known sighting, whilst a SARDA Wales search dog team, assisted by a mountain rescue navigator, searched open land on the outskirts of the town.
At around 4 a.m. the dog team located a body, and all agencies were involved in its recovery. Further investigations into the circumstances surrounding the find will be conducted by North Wales Police.
Team Member Graham O’Hanlon made this statement. “It was a tragic end to the nights work, and all the teams’ thoughts
are very much with the friends and family of the person in question."
Ironically, only hours before the call-out, the team had been working on search-management skills at Aberdyfi Lifeboat Station, and the scenario used for training purposes was a person missing overnight from Dolgellau. “It is hard to
imagine that we could have been better prepared for this call-out” said Graham, “and it is sad that even this did not help us secure a more favourable
outcome."
