At around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, the Aberdyfi Search and Rescue Team (ASART)was alerted to a collapsed walker a short distance up the Pony Path on Cadair Idris.

With no previous medical  history, the walker, a 41 year-old man from Sussex, had suffered a seizure whilst making the ascent, and although apparently recovered by the time assistance arrived, the medical advice was to evacuate by stretcher in case of  a recurrence.

The rescue was very much a team effort in the broader sense; first on scene was a Snowdonia National Park Ranger, quickly followed by a Team Member climbing nearby. The ASART team was also assisted by colleagues from the South Snowdonia Mountain Rescue Team who were able to add some additional man-power to the stretcher carry. With both of the ASART team leaders at a meeting of Welsh Mountain Rescue Teams, the whole rescue was coordinated from the back of a conference room in Brecon.

Everyone was safely off the mountain by 1:00 p.m. and the casualty was passed on to an awaiting ambulance for further medical care.

The team were contacted by North Wales Police at 18:30 on Sunday evening following reports from a pair of motorcyclists that had lost two members of their party at around 14:00.  The full team deployed, divided  the forestry up into a number of search areas and began to conduct a search of the entire Dyfi Forestry using 4x4 vehicles. The team were half way through the search when news came through of two lost males turning up at a house in Aberangell. Following verification that they were the pair the team were looking for the motorcyclists were reunited and greeted by awaiting Dyfed Powys Police officers.
