The 12 year old boy had fallen from a swing into a streambed in the hills north of Penhelig on the outskirts of the town. Landing badly, he had seriously injured his ankle.
The incident occurred almost immediately adjacent to where the Team's van is stored, and Team members working at the nearby Outward Bound activity centre were able to get on scene quickly, bringing along some extra muscle in the shape of staff from the centre.
The child was stretchered out from the gorge and passed on to the waiting ambulance for transfer to Bronglais Hospital, Aberystwyth. It transpires that there was some ligament damage to the ankle, but thankfully it was not broken.
All rescues throw up challenges and surprises as they develop, and this was to be no exception; one of the first Team members on scene quickly realised that the casualty was his son.
